The recession may be hitting everyone else hard, but the advertising world seems immune, because the world’s top models are still pulling in millions. Perhaps it’s an extra effort to stimulate the economy or just a sign that the fashion industry is recession proof. Either way, top models are still being paid well, as you’ll find out as you read on.
Topping the list of the most well-paid models is Gisele Bundchen, though she hardly needs it – her husband is NFL pro Tom Brady. Bundchen brought in $25 million on her own this year, adding to her estimated $150 million fortune. Though she originally wanted to be a professional volleyball player, modeling has been very nice to Bundchen. She has graced the covers of magazines such as Vogue, ELLE, GQ, Esquire and many more, working for companies such as Ralph Lauren, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Victoria’s Secret.
Next up is Heidi Klum, who took in $16 million this year. The German American model is also a television producer, fashion designer, artist, TV host, actress and pretty much anything else she decides to delve into. Klum hit it big with Sports Illustrated and Victoria’s Secret, and has since branched out, appearing on the covers of Vogue, ELLE, and Marie Claire. Klum also is the host, judge and executive producer of Project Runway.
Also earning big bucks is Kate Moss, though she failed to hit double digits by earning just $9 million (hard to feel bad for her though). Moss has appeared on an estimated 300 magazine covers in her time, modeling for Dior, Gucci, Calvin Klein, and other top-tier fashion designers. Moss has also dabbled in design herself, including a line of handbags to be released this year.
Number four on the list is Adriana Lima. The stunning Brazillian has been a Victoria’s Secret angel since 2000, but has spread her wings all over the modeling world since. Lima has graced the covers of Cosmopolitan, Arena, Marie Claire, Vogue and GQ, among countless others. The sky has been the limit for Lima since she was 15, when she won Ford’s “Supermodel of Brazil” model search. Lima pulled in $7.5 million this year.
Rounding out the top five most well-paid models of the year is Doutzen Kroes, from the Netherlands. The 25-year old has caught the eye of Seventeen, Time, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour and dozens of other magazines enough to land her a spot on their covers. The Dutch model has worked with Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss, DeBeers and quite a few other top-name companies.
