M.I.A., everyone’s favorite controversial rapper, headlined at New York’s Hard Fest this weekend promoting her new album, /\/\/\Y/\. According to sources not only was her performance bad, but the show was peppered with poor sound problems and a terrible reaction from the people who paid to see her. Her set was also cut short due to a thunderstorm.
According to the New York Times,
“The set started with “Steppin Up,” with M.I.A. backed by about a dozen power drills as part of the rhythm track: noise triumphant. But M.I.A.’s vocals were often so buried in echo, and the bass so bloated, that her lyrics just became more of the din, and the songs that she segued together like a disc-jockey set were barely distinguishable. Instead of a barrage, it was a morass.”
Things then went from bad to worse – before M.I.A. left the stage she did what she does: best got controversial, this time by spitting on a photographer. There didn’t appear to be any reasons as to why she did do it and I’m sure we don’t care. Having a bad show, then spitting on someone for doing their job is just nasty and no way for a new mother to behave.
