Proving that news about American Idol is more important than anything actually going on in America, the top story currently is that 2004’s American Idol champion Fantasia has been hospitalized following a suicide attempt.
The singer, who is due to release her third album, Back To Me, on August 24, is in stable condition at a hospital in North Carolina. Fantasia reportedly took an overdose of aspirin and a sleep-aid because she was “overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention,” said her manager.
Apparently, she didn’t realize that a suicide attempt would only result in more media scrutiny. Fantasia’s manager, Brian Dickens, noted that she was expected to recover fully.
“Her injuries are not life threatening,” Dickens explained. “She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time.”
Dickens also admitted that Fantasia had been in a relationship with Antwaun Cook for 11 months. According to Dickens, though, Fantasia wasn’t completely irresponsible and adulterous.
Dickens claimed Fantasia thought Cook “was not happy in his marriage and his heart was not in it. She believed him when he told her he and Mrs. Cook were separated late in the summer of 2009.”
Fantasia was due for an interview with Time Magazine tomorrow, but that has been cancelled. Dickens maintained Fantasia was remaining positive, despite the news of the affair and the suicide attempt.
“Fantasia sends her praise to God and her eternal gratitude to her fans, friends, and family,” said Dickens.
