Emma Stone May Score Mary Jane Role in Spider-Man Reboot
Emma Stone is reportedly being considered for the role of Mary Jane Watson in Sony’s Spider-Man reboot.
The Easy A breakout star’s name is the latest to emerge in the search for pop culture’s most iconic girl next door.
Not only does Stone look the part, but she has proven in such films as Zombieland and Superbad that she can be likeable as well as tough.
Since the remake is supposedly going to have a darker tone than the original Spider-Man films, Stone should fit right in.
Stone has also starred in four Sony films, and it is reported that she has a good relationship with Sony Co-Chairwoman Amy Pascal.
Aside from Stone, other actresses possibly being considered for the part are Imogen Poots (Solitary Man,) Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,) Lily Collins (The Blind Side,) Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy) and Emma Roberts (Nancy Drew.)
Although it had been speculated that the reboot would feature only Gwen Stacy (the blonde in Spider-Man 3) as Peter Parker’s love interest, sources are now stating that the reboot will focus on Watson and Stacy.
Rumor has it that Alice in Wonderland’s Mia Wasikowska is being considered for the role of Stacy.
Spider-Man, which will be directed by Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer) and also star Andrew Garfield (The Social Network,) is expected to swing into theaters July 2012.
