Director Judd Apatow has been lying low since his third directorial feature, Funny People, hit theaters last year.
That is, he has been lying low until now.
Universal Studios has announced that Apatow’s next film will be released on June 1, 2012.
Apatow is in the process of writing the film, which he will also produce.
Alas, that is all we know about the film. The title, genre, and plot of the film have yet to be released.
We may be able to assume that the film is a comedy. The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up are comedy classics, and after Funny People’s uneven mix of comedy and tragedy received mixed reviews, Apatow may be sticking to what he does best.
We can also assume that Apatow’s wife, Leslie Mann, will make an appearance in the film. She has had scene-stealing supporting roles in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Funny People, so it is safe to say she will be in his next film.
While I was sorely disappointed with Funny People after the great The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, I am looking forward to Apatow’s next film—whether it be a comedy or drama. He has considerable talent, and June 1, 2012 cannot come fast enough.
