Red Hot Chili Peppers to Sue Diana Vickers over My Wicked Heart

In a surprising turn of events, there is a pending musical plagiarism lawsuit that doesn’t involve Coldplay.  This time, it’s Red Hot Chili Peppers who may be suing Diana Vickers, as her song “My Wicked Heart” is said to bear too much of a resemblance to the RHCP classic “Under the Bridge.”  Are the songs too similar?  You can check them out in the videos below.

The music in question comes in the chorus of Diana Vickers’ “My Wicked Heart,” a song that propelled the singer to stardom on the UK’s The X Factor, Simon Cowell’s talent search show.

To make matters worse, Vickers admitted that she had listened to “Under the Bridge” when writing her song, as this issue has come up previously.  It has been suggested that it is the executives at Warner Bros. records who are most incensed about the issue.  Listen for yourself below, and download Red Hot Chili Peppers music here and find Diana Vickers songs here.

    I second that.
    Thumbs Up, Mr. Doe

  • Riddles

What a load of rubbish – they bear no resemblance. Maybe we should dig shakespeare up, maybe we should dig up angela carter, maybe we should take to the remaining members of queen, stone sour, nickelback – maybe we should talk to ever member of the cultural world – there is no-one who is completely free of plagiarism in one form or another – I’d like to tell RHCP to grow up – where do they think they come from…? idiots!

For those who havent a clue what they are talking about, here is a little history lession for you, RHCP have sampled other songs in the past.
    Black Sabbath – Sweet Leaf
Fishbone – Bonin’ in the Boneyard
    X – White Girl
    Jeff Buckley-Eternal Life
A little leaving thought, Artists copy/sample other artists music. Its a fact of life and they dont always ask permission, the likes of Guns and roses have done it. So lets be a little nicer to the new kid on the block.

Is she serious? Never even heard of this chick, she’s probably just doing it to get her name out there.

  • Cathey

Good! Sue her! make her work hard for the money she should get by being creative. That’s the original idea isn’t?…

  • What absolute fools, why the hell would they steal such a legendary song and then admit to it? RHCP all the way! XD

  • Jeff

The progression is the same and it is clear that she stole that progression when she was writing it because she admits to listening Under the Bridge while writing this song so yes she did technically steal even if it is a small part.
