Tony Scott Confirms Top Gun 2, Trailer Watch Begins

Top Gun is cited by some as the defining performance of Tom Cruise’s career, and is recognized by countless others as an extremely entertaining film. So it’s not surprise that upon the announcement that Top Gun 2 is in the works, searches for a Top Gun 2 trailer have skyrocketed.  Although no Top Gun 2 trailer has appeared, there’s a reason for that – Top Gun 2 hasn’t even been written yet.

Director Tony Scott confirmed that there was a plan for it, and noted that it would not just be a rehashing of the original Top Gun.

“I don’t want to do a remake. I don’t want to do a reinvention,” Scott said.  “I want to do a new movie.”

For now, Scott is researching what he wants to do for the film, and noted that he would spend some time in Nevada to learn more about unmanned drones for possible inclusion in Top Gun 2.  From what Scott said, that could be quite the entertaining plot.

“These computer geeks–these kids play war games in a trailer in Fallon, Nevada and if we ever went to war or were in the Middle East or the Far East or wherever it is, these guys can actually fly drones,” explained Scott. “They are unmanned aircraft. They operate them and then they party all night.”

War games and partying?  Sounds like the armed forces just got a lot more attractive. Keep an eye out for a Top Gun 2 trailer and we’ll do the same.

Top Gun is about aerial combat with Guns, Missiles and Ejection seats. Not guys sitting in some shack drinking coke and flying video games in the desert in some area 51. The Air Force is honestly the only branch of service that really flies drones anyway. and you have to use the Navy, you can’t drop carriers and fighters.

Ok, honestly when I read all over the internet that Tony Scott would base his movie about unmanned aircraft, I became pissed. Top Gun is still up and running, and they still do fly and instruct Navy Pilots in Aerial Dogfighting. They continue to fly F-5II Tigers and F-18 Hornets. If he is going to do a movie about unmanned aircraft, why not just name the movie “Drones” or “Top Drone”? Top Gun is NOT about unmanned drones and was never to begin with. The biggest bitch about it is, even including on this website, people seem to be *excited* about the fact that we’re going to watch some dudes in a god damned trailer flying drones from their computer. How in the hell can anyone consider that Top Gun? I mean really, we’ve waited for a sequel for 24 years because the original was THAT good, and we get this crap about unmanned aircraft? Fuck modernized movies, fuck 3D, fuck it all, if this movie carries on like I think it will, as a true Top Gun fan I’m gonna say it’s going to blow nuts.
