Yes, this is actually happening. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, the actors who portrayed the title roles in the 2008 cult comedy Step Brothers, are working together on a rap album. The director Adam McKay tweeted about the album earlier this week in what many fans thought was a joke – looks like they were wrong.
McKay stated that the project has just found a “big time” producer, and has yet to release any more details. He has confirmed that the project is indeed happening, for any naysayers out there. I’m a state of disbelief, in all honesty. It’s three years past the release date of the movie…isn’t it a little late to be doing a project like this? I feel like the main audience for the album might have forgotten about the movie at this point. This is purely speculation, obviously, and it is entirely possible that I could be proven wrong. Maybe when the album gets released, it blows up and Ferrell and Reilly become music idols. But really, the possibility of this flopping is pretty high in my opinion…sorry.
For those of us who might not know of the movie, or maybe forgot the rapping scene, feel free to check it out below.
I would never have guessed that one minute and 15 seconds of rapping would be enough to validate making an album, but hey, guess I was wrong. Ferrell and Reilly have the ability to drop some great one liners, such as “The Nina, OH, the Pinta, OH, the Santa Maria, OH, I’ll do you in the bottom while you’re drinking Sangria.” The best way I can describe it is a dirtier version of Weird Al Yankovic, except that Huff ‘n Doback aren’t parodying anything. I’m skeptical about how this will turn out, but I guess we will find out. It’s an interesting side project, at the very least.
