Christina Aguilera Arrested While Drunk, Will Not Be Prosecuted

Seemingly attempting to outdo Charlie Sheen in terms of tabloid coverage, Christina Aguilera allegedly got “extremely intoxicated” on the Sunset Strip Monday night and was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public. Aguilera‘s arrest came after the car driven by her boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, was stopped and Rutler was jailed on suspicion of driving under the influence. Despite (allegedly) being massively wasted, Aguilera will not be prosecuted and was released from her cell once the buzz wore off.

“She was booked, she was fingerprinted and she was put in a cell,” explained Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore. “When she was able to navigate and think on her own…she was released.”

While Aguilera and Rutler were arrested at 2:45 a.m., it took Aguilera until 7:30 a.m. to emerge from her (alleged) state of blackout. While Aguilera’s arrest will not result in prosecution of any kind, it will remain as a misdemeanor on her record, so any more alleged crimes could complicate her future career.

Aguilera last made headlines for (non-allegedly) forgetting the words to the national anthem at Super Bowl 45. When asked why she decided to take poetic license with the words to America’s most sacred song, Aguilera explained that she was simply overcome by the moment.
