The girls of the ABC comedy Desperate Housewives are doing more than sparking drama amongst the neighborhood tonight. Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, and Marcia Cross were joined by their fellow ABC actors – including Jorge Garcia of Lost – in a fundraiser to fight Cystic Fibrosis. Judy Ranan, Executive Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, did an excellent job organizing the event, gathering a crowd of four hundred for the show, food and entertainment.
Wisteria Lane was transformed from a picturesque suburban cul-de-sac into a wild party with live art, food stands and velvet ropes lining the street. There was a live band, with performances from Jesse Spencer of House M.D., James Denton and other ABC stars – Teri Hatcher even joined them on stage for a rendition of Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” The event raised a large amount of money, as celebrities and the industry insiders bid on items in both silent and live auctions – Hatcher was outbid for five Maine lobsters, which were taken home for five-thousand dollars! Cystic Fibrosis is a chronic lung disease where large amounts of mucus build up and flood the chest, where the average life expectancy is less than thirty-five years. The women of Desperate Housewives and the other men and women of ABC did a whole lot to get this number raised, though; and the event may have started on Wisteria, but its reach will extend much farther than the Universal Studio lots.
