Metallica have revealed they will join forces with Rick Rubin for their next album.
Robert Trujillo, bassist for the heavy metal legends – who are set to play concerts alongside Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax this year – confirmed they would team up with the producer, who Robert describes as exactly what the band require.
He told 93.7 KCLB Rocks! radio: “Yeah, I love working with Rick. Rick, to me, he’s sort of a Zen guru spirit that Metallica needs right now.
“Not to say that we need it, because we’re getting along incredibly well, we’re really excited to write some new music. There’s no shortage of riffage in Metallica world right now. And I think it’s only gonna get better.”
The band got back on track with 2008s ‘Death Magnetic’ album, but they are yet to hit the heights achieved from LPs ‘Master of Puppets’ and their self-titled record, widely regarded as ‘The Black Album’ due to its black cover.
Let’s hope Rick can inspire the foursome – which include frontman James Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett and drummer Lars Ulrich – to create some superb tracks on their next album that live up to ‘Enter Sandman’ and ‘One’.
