Dark Glamour from Raquel Zimmerman
Wearing one killer leather wardrobe, Brazilian model Raquel Zimmerman is bringing the 60’s mod style into the 21st century, with help of fashion editor Nicoletta Santoro. Shot for the August issue of Vogue China by Willy Vanderperre, Raquel looks stunning in this narrative fashion editorial, wearing designs by Prada, Lanvin, Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang among others.
Willy Vanderperre is one of my favorite fashion photographers, as I find his images always appear as though they have an interesting story behind them. This narrative is no different in that respect, it really does look as though Raquel is hiding something behind those eyes. This fashion editorial shows the darker side of glamor, and with a strong narrative and polished photographic and creative direction, I think the results are very effective. Love the contrast of the red brick background in some of the images, and the bright white studio-like setting in the others.
This spread is moody, as modern and stylized as the designs are, Raquel’s strictness and simple posing style helps to create a consistent and balanced overall look. The wardrobe here is to die for. Leather dresses and snakeskin print jackets, with gloves, hats and thigh-high stockings. It is all very sexy, and a truly great editorial spread for one of the most sought after models of the moment.
