Eric Canto – Mass Hysteria, The Book
This week we rock out our celebratory air guitars for the release of music photographer Eric Canto’s book, Mass Hysteria!.
For the Artbook collector, this is 136 pages from Eric Canto, presenting unreleased photos of the renowned band Mass Hysteria and an insight into behind the scenes stage performances from the “Flaws” tour. The tour got on the road in 2009 and has been ongoing until this year, last date being in July with an epic Metallica finale.
Having worked with the band for two years, you can see how Eric captures the hardcore collaboration and closely formed relationships between the two presets in all its heavy metal glory inside the pages of this exclusive tour story.
French photographer Eric Canto started off his career on stage as a musician, before making his move behind the lens into live music photography. Taking influence from such photographers as Avedon, Lachapelle, Ward, and Lindberg. Since then Canto has developed a distinct style that has remained consistent throughout his career and is displayed completely in his latest publication.
Besides his relationship with Mass Hysteria, his work spans all sectors of the music industry, from collaborations with magazines, to working with record companies, artists and bands. He also creates band photography, live photography and promotional portraits, which he has produced for high profile names such as U2, Lenny Kravitz and Jay-Z to name but a few.
“I started out as a musician. The music scene has always been a place full of magic for me. I moved into photography, but still in the music field. My place was not on stage, but to focus on my two points of interest, music and photography.” – Eric Canto
Eric has a full schedule of festivals booked this season including Sonisphere, Eurock Eennes, Festival Denimes and Rock En Seine. Watch out for ‘The Life of a Rockstar’ as our Creative Director Nicholas Hardy documents Eric taking images at Sonisphere this Summer for the likes of Slipknot, Metallica and the legends that are Mass Hysteria themselves.
