Last night movers & shakers of the worlds of sports, entertainment and fashion gathered downtown at Cipriani Wall Street to celebrate the Manchester United soccer team’s runway debut. Sporting new timepieces from the Hublot 2011 collection, the Manchester United team stars including Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand, Chicharito, Michael Owen, Ashley Young and legendary team manager Sir Alex Ferguson, put their footwork to use in the Hublot watches ‘Art of Fusion’ fashion show in front of 300 guests. The show, which started blasting Le Freak by Chic, introduced the players 2 by 2 as guests cheered them on. The “Hublot” watch poses ranged from Ryan Giggs’ “James Bond” look to Wayne Rooney’s “tough guy” and Rio Ferdinand’s “paparazzi imitation”.
Afterwards, guests, including Gossip Girl actor Matthew Settle, Tinsley Mortimer, US women’s soccer star Alex Morgan and Grammy-Nominee Ryan Leslie, were invited to bid on auction items that included Hublot watches and Manchester United collectible items. Wayne Rooney outbid the crowd for the sought-after limited edition Hublot worn by Sir Alex Ferguson, while renowned hotelier Morris Moinian fought over an Audi Type C car signed by the players. The real winner of the night? The Manchester United Foundation, as it seeks to provide positive experiences to children around the world through soccer.
Hublot and Manchester United also teamed up to create the Hublot King Power Red Devil watch, which has grass from MU’s iconic OLD Trafford Stadium imbedded in the design. This special timepiece marks the third limited edition collaboration between the MU and Hublot.
