It has been talked about for quite a while now, but it appears that the biopic about the rap legends behind NWA is to be in full production soon. Ice Cube, one of the founding members of the massively influential group, is reported to produce the movie along with John Singleton, director of the classic film Boyz N the Hood.
“I can’t talk about it too prematurely about the stuff I’m doing because nothing’s come to fruition yet, but Cube and I are talking about doing the N.W.A story,” Singleton said of the film. “The script is really, really good and we’re just figuring it out. New Line [Cinema] really wants to make it.”
Rumors have been circulating that Singleton will play the role of director as well, but according to Vulture, New Line is only considering three directors for the project: Friday’s F. Gary Gray, Hustle and Flow’s director Craig Brewer, and Peter Berg, who directed the theatrical version of Friday Night Lights.
NWA were the pioneers of West Coast gangsta’ rap, and no matter who directs the film, I know that I will be first in line to see it open on its first night.
