Rodarte Sisters To Design Costumes For Don Giovanni
Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte are on a roll. After a serene spring 2012 collection inspired by Van Gogh’s sunflower oils, a spot designing costumes for 2011’s psychological thriller Black Swan, and a successful collaboration with international hip boutique Opening Ceremony, the Mulleavy sisters are busier than ever.
What’s next in the new year? A once in a lifetime opportunity to design costumes for the new Philharmonic show Don Giovanni in LA.
“Opera has always been a part of us; our grandmother was from Rome and studied it as a young girl,” the Rodarte duo told WWD. “To be a part of the legacy of Don Giovanni is an amazing opportunity. Working with Frank Gehry in the concert hall that he designed, alongside [conductor] Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, is a dream.”
Performances of Don Giovanni are set to start this spring under the direction of Christopher Alden.
