John Pearson suffered from “good nerves” ahead of his return to the catwalk.
The celebrated male model last walked for Italian fashion house Valentino over a decade ago before appearing in Prada’s Spring/Summer 13 menswear show on Sunday.
One of the original male supermodels from the ‘90s, the iconic fashion star said it was great to be back in the hustle and bustle of the sartorial world. He even bumped into an old modeling pal backstage.
“There were a few nerves, but good nerves. It really felt great to be in the show,” he told Vogue. “My pal John Rawlinson, another old boy, was also in the show and we share the same birthday, June 24 – which of course was the day of the show. So it was fun… and I got my eyebrows bleached too.”
John was impressed when the chief designer of Prada’s menswear fashion came backstage to wish the models good luck.
The veteran mannequin said it was the first time he has experienced such “respect and appreciation” in his career.
“The best moment was as we all were about to go on, the head menswear designer actually took the moment to check the models, offer a little word of encouragement and direction, but mostly thank them for being in the show! I’ve never seen, heard, or experienced this before and he did it with genuine respect and appreciation – for me, that was the highlight, pure class and humility. Bless him, a lovely man,” he said.
