Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

It seems as if mega mass-retailer H&M has done it again. Bouncing back from an incredibly successful capsule collection designed by Consuelo Castiglioni, creative director of Marni, Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M, has confirmed that the next high-low collaboration will feature none other than high-concept house Maison Martin Margiela:

“Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades,” said van den Bosch. “I am so excited by this collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment“

Great and memorable to be sure. Since Martin Margiela stepped down as creative director the house has lost a margin of its exclusivity by beefing up its myriad diffusion lines and even collaborating with the ultra hip boutique Opening Ceremony. This collaboration marks a huge shift in the retail market. This is the first time the enigmatic Maison Martin Margiela is hitting the fast fashion stage, and many are questioning what this means for the future and sustained relevance of haute couture and high fashion.

“We are very happy to present Maison Martin Margiela pieces with H&M, offering a new interpretation of our vision,” said a representative from Maison Martin Margiela. “The democracy of our fashion has always been at the center of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all.”

The capsule collection of garments and accessories for men and women is set to launch on November 15, 2012 and will be sold at over 200 H&M stores worldwide, as well as online. Be sure to pick some keylink pepper spray. This one looks like it’ll be brutal.
