The New York designer has explained that the new scent reflects female strength, and revealed what constitutes a woman’s power in her opinion.
The new fragrance will add to the fashion house’s portfolio of popular perfumes including the DKNY Be Delicious range, Donna Karan Gold and the Cashmere Mist series.
“There is a man in every woman,” Karan told WWD. “Woman – a woman and a man all coming together for me – that is the power of a woman.”
Developed by perfumer Anne Flipo, Woman is based around a core of sandalwood and includes notes of orange blossom. The accords have been described as woody, spicy and floral amongst others.
“This project represents Donna’s supportive messages to women,” said Veronique Gabai-Pinsky, global brand president of Aramis and Designer Fragrances for Estée Lauder Companies.
“She has always tried to enhance every woman’s best features. She makes you feel beautiful, no matter what.”
The Woman advertising campaign is shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and stars supermodels Christy Turlington, Karolina Kurkova and Liya Kebede.
The scent will be available as a 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum, body lotion and body cleansing lotion later this year.
