Karl Lagerfeld says inspiration is like a muscle you need to work out.
The world famous designer has spoken about how he conjures up his creations. As the chief creative director of Chanel, Karl is constantly thinking artistically as he goes through the routines of daily life.
“I think inspiration is a muscle. You must use this muscle all the time. The more you do, the more ideas you have,” Karl is quoted as saying. “I don’t believe in waiting for inspiration on beaches. I believe in the job, on the spot.”
Karl is known for his unusual sayings and his striking appearance. The silver-haired veteran possesses an almost unrivaled eye for style and while some of his contemporaries criticize new innovations he is all in favor of redesign.
He is forward thinking when it comes to the future of fashion and has nothing but praise for labels such as Yves Saint Laurent and their recent rebranding and new logo.
“All of them, Dior and Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent, are friends of mine, so I think it’s a very good thing… Paris needs some new things, some stimulation… It’s good for everybody,” Karl told British Elle. “Competition is a healthy thing in life, especially in this business. I love the idea. I think it’s interesting and it’s important. Something fresh was needed.”
