Bill Blass’ upcoming New York Fashion Week show has been canceled and its entire staff fired. The fashion house was due to show off its Spring/Summer 13 line in September.
WWD reports the company had already booked a location for the presentation, invested in fabric for the line and sourced a PR and agency to help promote it. Despite this, the event has been called off.
“Scott Patti, president of the Bill Blass Group, first told Monteiro Jeffrey, womenswear designer that next month’s show had been canceled and that the women’s collection would not be going forward,” reports the publication.
“Patti later handed out pink slips one by one and told employees they were ‘free to go,’ according to one former Blass employee. There was no explanation or mention of severance packages, the former staffer said.”
It’s thought the drama happened last week, with all nine of the womenswear design team told their services were no longer required.
It’s thought company bosses had requested a look into the viability of the business before taking action.
In 2008, around 60 staff lost their jobs after Peter Som left the label.
