This was definitely an anticipated show, the recent collaboration with NARS created beauty buzz long before fashion week even begun. Alexander Wang has had a long history of using MAC, so this was something that caused a bit of anticipation for the grand reveal this afternoon. Makeup artist Diane Kendal always delivers superb artistry when executing each runway look, and this was no exception. Makeup was simple, a sporty-chic compliment to a hard-edged, streamlined collection.
“It had to be,” she explained, “because this season is full of minimal tones, so we wanted to do the same thing for the face and focused on matte and flawless skin.” Using NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer all over, the only illumination on the face was a simple highlight brushed across cheekbones and noses, accentuating heavy contours and the usual androgynous style. Brows were heavy and boxy, filled in with NARS Bali, a geometric accent to compliment the contemporary image and deconstructed pieces. A dramatic center part was sleek and tight; low ponytails were held in place with thin black cord wrapped around the base. A sci-fi stripe of black glow in the dark tape down the center of the hair completed the image, adding that something extra to set it apart from what has been seen this week. The show concluded with bleached blondes, brows white as well as taped stripes, for a theatrical finale expressed through glowing monochromatic vanilla separates.
