This was one of the rare and delightful occasions when the beauty look was bold, bright and stood out amongst the clothes; smoldering crimson red lips were intense and very much in your face for Prada’s spring collection. Andy Warhol pop art florals combined with an Asian fusion created something feminine and slightly severe; Miuccia Prada describes her inspiration as “the struggles women have between toughness and softness, the rigor followed by delicacy, and the poetic part of women.” It’s always interesting to see how she reinterprets her vision of vintage flair every season, classic shapes with a fresh concept keeps pieces ladylike with a totally new feel one can always look forward to adding to a well stocked closet.
Pat McGrath created an image of “a passionate woman [this season] and you can’t get more passionate than red.” Skin was immaculate and lightly highlighted through the center of the face, while eyes were simple using a neutral brown to contour and a white frosty shadow to line the lids. Lips were lined with CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipliner in Hot and filled in with its LipPerfection Lipcolor in the same shade. “It’s all about oversized,” McGrath noted, keeping the color slightly outside of the lip line and drawing a white, “illustration-like” curve along the cupid’s bow to make them appear bigger. Hair was dried straight with Redken Thickening Lotion 06 Body Builder to create a base level of texture, while hair guru Guido Palau created a series of classic French twists leaving ends combed over for faux-fringe with a bit of character.
