Dolce & Gabbana Menswear Fall Winter 2013 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Catholicism and Dolce & Gabbana seem to fall on opposite ends of the spectrum. The brand known for strutting statuesque male models down the runway in their briefs turned to its Italian roots and created a collection playing off the Catholicism of its home. Making it even more of a “family” affair, 62 real models from Sicily walked the runway in the brand’s designs.

From the finale with ringing church bells and shirts with Madonna on them to the knits of fishermen (granted Dolce & Gabbana made these knits of cashmere), the elements of rustic, Sicilian life were in every detail. Pants of different hem lengths ranging were paired with jackets of all sizes showcasing the importance of silhouettes and tailoring.

Pleated, high-waisted pants with blouson-like tops shared the runway with tapestry inspired jackets representing the inner workings of a community. Without every element of a community, it’s just a group of people living in close proximity just like without every article is necessary to make a complete collection. And Dolce & Gabbana understand that more than ever with this season—even down to the Virgin Mary pins of altar boys.
