Miuccia Prada revealed four of her sketches from Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Luhrmann and Prada wanted to create a world that seemed slightly familiar yet foreign as well. In order to do so, Prada worked with costume designer Catherine Martin to create looks inspired by the Prada and Miu Miu archives. She drew inspiration from the past but transformed the designs with touches of modernity.
Luhrmann and Prada are no strangers to collaborating either, having worked together on his production of Romeo and Juliet. This time however Prada had more designs featured in the film and differed vastly from the suit she designed for Leonardo Dicaprio in Romeo and Juliet. These costumes involved glitz and glam in rich shades of topaz, jade, and emerald and fit into a scene of excess and decadence, sophistication and glamour.
