Boyish charm sums up Marni’s Ready-to-Wear collection for fall 2013. Playing off school boy looks but with more than a hint of elegance, Consuelo Castiglioni’s designs drew on a sense of nostalgia mixed with sporty wear-ability.
Slim-cut dark pants, some with stripes almost resembling a racing stripes, anchored nearly every look. Adding the variety, oh that would be the mixture of nerd-ish suits, autumnal colored sweaters, and outerwear.
And it really was the outerwear that provided the biggest surprise. Fur panels on the backs of some jackets and sweaters ensured that the look wasn’t the same coming as going.
Skinny ties and après-ski inspired accessories completed the collection and unified the aesthetic. Castiglioni managed to combine the 1970s look of a rebellious schoolboy with mountain sportswear…and it didn’t look like a tacky tourist. Perhaps it was the accessories: just a touch of winter with knit hats mixed with the right amount of boyish cool kid (just check out the boots and the studded satchels)? Whatever the balanced equation was, Marni found it.
