Kanye West caused a big stir with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy – and not just because the album has earned countless five-star reviews (read Bloginity’s review right here). Kanye West also caused a big stir with the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album cover, which features some artistic nudity. But the rapper insists he didn’t choose the cover to cause a stir, but because it spoke to him, artistically.

If your idea of good rock music is what you can find on a top-4o station, then this will likely be the highlight of 2010 for you. If you prefer a little originality, creativity and perhaps even a time signature other than 4/4, then prepare to be disappointed. However, that’s not to say All American Nightmare won’t sell well; it will probably be certified gold and spawn a single or two that you’ll come to loathe as they’re overplayed. Hinder knows its demographic, and nails it on this album, suggesting that All American Nightmare is far more clever than it initially appears.
Rise Records scored two hot up-and-coming acts today, with the signing of Man Overboard and Transit. The bands and Rise are wasting no time getting down to business, as both acts have releases planned for 2011.

Charlie Wilson is known to many as the lead singer of the Gap Band, but the singer proves his solo efforts have not been a fluke on his latest effort, Just Charlie. Although Charlie Wilson has worked with a veritable who’s who of the R&B and hip-hop worlds, he keeps things simple on Just Charlie, limiting the guest spots to just one (Fantasia, on “I Wanna Be Your Man”), which allows him to shine.

It’s a shame that T.I. will be locked up when No Mercy drops, because this one is worthy of a raucous release party. Although No Mercy isn’t flawless, it shows a lot of growth from T.I., as he digs deep and delivers big on many of the tracks. T.I. shares his innermost thoughts but shows that he hasn’t forgotten how to have fun, either. Despite the impressive cast of guests, T.I. rises above the rest and stands out on every song. No Mercy offers something for everyone, with steamy club bangers as well as more serious, cerebral and honest explorations of the imprisoned rapper’s life.
If I had a dime for every time a music fan or critic hailed an artist as “the next [insert music god here],” I’d be as wealthy as any of today’s megastars.
Trunk Muzik 0-60 doesn’t waste too much time dwelling on haters, although given Yelawolf’s talent and the praise this disc has been attracting, he’s sure to be making plenty of envious peers about which to write on his next effort.
