Proud mother Georgina ChapmanSeptember 2, 2010 11:52 am

Georgina Chapman has become a mother for the first time.

The Marchesa designer – who is married to movie mogul Harvey Weinstein – gave birth to daughter India Pearl in New York on Sunday (29.08.10) and both mother and baby are doing well.

A friend of the couple said: “They are absolutely delighted.”

Georgina, 29, announced her pregnancy in April and said she was having fun dressing her ever-expanding stomach.

Speaking at the New Yorkers for Children gala, Georgina said: “We’re so excited! I’m five months along, but this dress hides it pretty well!”

While India is the first child for Georgina, Harvey already has three daughters, Lily, Lucy and Emma, from a previous marriage.

In 2004, Georgina co-founded Marchesa with fellow Chelsea College of Art and Design graduate Keren Craig, with the label being named after socialite Marchesa Luisa Casati.

Investors of the brand include Giuseppe Cipriani and Steven C. Witkoff and in 2006, the label was named one of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund’s top ten finalists.

In 2008, the designers created one of the year’s most eagerly anticipated wedding dresses – that of Coleen McLoughlin, who was marrying England soccer star Wayne Rooney in a beautiful Italian ceremony.

Lanvin’s H&M designsSeptember 2, 2010 8:17 am

Lanvin are to be the next H&M collaborators.

The Swedish high street brand – which has previously collaborated with Stella McCartney, Madonna and Karl Lagerfeld on cheaper rangers – has created a range of luxury clothes in conjunction with Lanvin’s artistic director Alber Elbaz, who has previously said he would never work with a mass market store.

He said: “H&M approached us to collaborate, and to see if we could translate the dream we created at Lanvin to a wider audience, not just a dress for less.

“I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public.

“This has been an exceptional exercise, where two companies at opposite poles can work together because we share the same philosophy of bringing joy and beauty to men and women around the world.”

H&M’s creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch added the brand was “thrilled” about the collection.

She said: “We are thrilled about Lanvin’s collection for H&M, it is such an exciting moment. Lanvin will bring to H&M a luxurious French tradition that is also modern and playful. It is very much a Lanvin collection, using their cut and tailoring, with lots of focus on form and details for both women and men.”

The range will hit stories on November 23.

Christina Hendricks’ designer furySeptember 2, 2010 8:17 am

Christina Hendricks has lashed out at designers who can’t cater for her womanly figure.

The voluptuous ‘Mad Men’ actress – who is a curvy US Size 10 – says labels don’t make sample dresses in her size, leaving her with few options for events.

She said: “They only lend out a size 0 or 2. So I’m still struggling for someone to give me a darn dress.

“People have been saying some nice, wonderful things about me. Yet not one designer in town will loan me a dress.”

Despite being bigger than the average Hollywood star, Christina – who was voted Sexiest Woman Alive by female readers of Esquire – insists she has never felt under pressure to lose weight.

She explained: “This has always been my size. I’ve worked on other shows with this same size but ‘Mad Men’ celebrates it and that is nice.”

Although she is not inundated with offers from fashion houses, there is one designer who is happy to dress the curvy actress – her best friend Tamara Mello.

Christina has recently appeared in a campaign for Tamara’s Blackbird Design House and admits she was delighted to be asked.

She told People magazine: “I have worn Tamara’s scarves, hats, sweaters and jewellery for years. She’s my best friend and we always collaborate, so it was only natural that I would model when she asked!”

Tamara added: “She’s the prettiest person I know, so she would come over for a visit and I would throw a scarf on her and start shooting. There was never a formal photo shoot. No hair and makeup, no lights I shot everything myself. She just makes everything look good with very little effort.”

Crystal Renn’s body loveSeptember 2, 2010 3:20 am

Crystal Renn loves her “shiny hair” and spot-free skin.

The plus-size model – who shrunk to a size zero after suffering from anorexia – admits she has bad days like all women, but gets through her negativity by focusing on what she likes about her body.

She said: “Sometimes I spend my days lifting myself up in mind and in body, then I remind myself that I’m a woman like any other and that I’m having a bad day. Then I focus on what I’m happy with – my shiny hair, my eyebrows and the fact that I don’t have a zit!”

The 24-year-old catwalk model has also learned to love her legs, which is something she is surprised by.

Discussing her favourite body parts, she told Look magazine: “My shoulders and chest area. I’m lucky because I’ve got a long neck. I also, surprisingly, like my legs. It’s ironic because I used to dislike them the most.

“Now I’m a size 14 and I do yoga and like to hike, so if doing those activities makes me this size, so be it – it’s my perfect weight.”

Nicole Richie’s clothing troublesSeptember 1, 2010 11:29 am

Nicole Richie’s distributor Majestic Mills is suing Los Angeles boutique Kitson.

The shop is alleged to have purchased $250,000 worth of goods from the Winter Kate range, but has not paid for it.

However, the shop is arguing a large proportion of the money owed relates to goods that could not be sold – up to $200,000-worth – and are waiting to be sent back to Majestic Mills.

Director of operations at Kitson, Dean Khial, has claimed although the store “adores” Richie, the Winter Kate range has suffered “growing pains”.

He told the New York Daily News: “Although Kitson adores Nicole Richie and has helped escalate her career with the support of her book signings, filming of numerous episodes of ‘The Simple Life’ and promoting her continuously successful jewellery collection by Pascal Mouawad, we feel the launch of her clothing collection, Winter Kate, had a lot of growing pains that often come along with any new designer collection.”

However, a spokesperson for Majestic Mills has hit back at the attack, saying the store is looking to “generate press” by linking Nicole to the problem.

A representative said: “This is purely a legal issue between Majestic Mills, a manufacturing company, and Kitson, a vendor.

“Kitson’s efforts to link Nicole to this are purely attempts for them to generate press, which is unfortunate and ridiculous.”
