Greg Kozo & Pierre Mathieu

Make The Girl Dance, a “Parisian” electro act led by Pierre Mathieu, who is best known in France for presenting the TV Show “Plus vite que la musique” on M6. Their first single Baby Baby Baby, captured the public’s imagination and created a magnificent buzz on the Internet thanks to a daring video which involved three beautiful women walking naked through La Rue Montorgueil during mid day. Since the release Baby Baby Baby has gotten a countless amounts of remixes that can all be found at the iTunes store.

The song is very catchy, it will get stuck in your head for a while and not in a bad way. In addition to the buzz the track was also featured on the Victoria Secret’s Miraculous Push up Bra commercial however, in the Victoria Secrets ad, the girls are wearing clothes unlike the original Baby Baby Baby video. This is not the first French musicians which we’ve featured, and when we asked Julie Budet, Yelle what it’s like when people who hear the song, don’t understand the language she replied that music is the language which everyone speaks. If you’re fast enough, and obviously are staring at the women you will able to read the English lyrics. The budget for the video was $800, the results were clear over two million on YouTube, over 7 million on DailyMotion.. You get the point? What’s next on the masters of Viral videos?

Greg Kozo & Pierre Mathieu

I had the pleasure of interviewing Pierre & Greg, the man behind these bananas in order to find out all the necessary information that the entire web has been after, like: what was the peoples reaction in the street, is this video even real?? and where is the uncensored version of Baby Baby Baby!?All these questions have been answered and in addition to that we found out that Mr. Mathieu holds back an uncensored version of the famous video, “Baby Baby Baby”..  Where? Read below.

Daniel: Have you been working on new collaborations? Any new projects?

Pierre: Yes we do. We are releasing our second single on February 2nd. Arrangements have been performed by Toxic Avengeron this track. We are actually working with him and with StereoHeroes on other tracks fot the album to come. We like very much collaborations. We for example are working on a track with Bondo de Role, a great Brazilian electro band, friend of CSS. But today we are focus on our 2nd music video release the 2nd of February, hoping people will talk about it like they did with Baby…

Daniel: This is a question that I like to ask music in a foreign language – Music is a universal language and it’s quite safe to say that Baby Baby Baby has traveled across the world and back. What do you think about your fans that are able to connect to your music even though they don’t understand the language? (I noticed that you did put translation on the boobs of the girls in the video clip.)

Pierre: It’s is very strange for us this international success of Baby. Because the lyrics are in French and we worked that track for the French market. But I think that abroad, people like french, it’s kind of romantic even if you don’t understand. It’s just like Brazilian for us. I don’t speak Brazilian (Portuguese) but I like to hear it. But yes it’s weird to see Germans or English people try to sing baby in French. Very funny…

Daniel: Talking about the video clip, which was really sexy and awesome – I’ve got too many questions to ask. Who brought the creative idea to the table? Who directed it?

Pierre: We are 2 people in that band. Pierre and Greg. Pierre had the idea and directed that music video. He is the “video” guy of the band…

Daniel: What was the crowds reaction on the streets? How about the reaction from the audience of France after seeing that?

Pierre: It’ was very strange to shoot this video. We were scared about having strong reaction in the street. People angry or trying to touch the girls… But surprisingly people were very nice. Even too much calm… Some people didn’t care at all to see a naked lady in the street, like if there was 5 every day in that street ! We shoot that video in 4mn. One shot. So people have very few time to react… same for policemen…

The audience of the music video in France has been gigantic. 1 million people a day have watched it during the first 3 days. It has become a phenomena. We had been interviewed by all TV channel of the country, even very serious one (like our CNN). People reacted well. They didn’t find it shocking. But just funny and courageous. It was the idea of the year and now we are a kind of reference for Internet buzz.

Daniel: What other cities did you consider shooting the video clip at?

Pierre: There was a lot of parody of our clip. Some bands in Russia, Brazil, US made the same video in other cities. So we don’t have to do that somewhere else. The original Baby is in Paris and will stay in Paris forever.

Daniel: Where is the uncensored version, we are highly interested in seeing the girls!

Pierre: I have one on my iPhone. And you will never see it…

Daniel: The accolades is starting to pour in, how does it feel to be positively embraced by this industry?

Pierre: It was the most difficult part of the project. To be accepted by the industry and the other electronic artist. For that a video clip is not enough. You need to play a lot and everywhere. That’s what we’ve done…

Daniel: Any plans to coming and taking over New York City? Brooklyn? L.A?

Pierre: Yes ! We just had the confirmation that we will play in South By South West festival in Austin Texas in March. For us it’s some kind of miracle ! We will also play in Miami at Winter music conference and we are about to be booked in New York (Webster Hall) and Montréal… Some kind of US Tour preparing for march !

Daniel: The new year was just here, what were your new years resolution?

Pierre: To make a lot of tracks for our album. Then to play on stage everywhere in the world again and again.

Daniel: What are your hopes for 2010?

Pierre: Having a baby in Paris and cheating on our girlfriends on tour.
