N.E.R.D. in Times Square
by Brian Willett
Honda will hold the first-ever 3D Times Square takeover to support the launch of the all-new CR-Z sport hybrid coupe tomorrow on Thursday, September 23rd. For the first time ever, 3D footage will air in Times Square on the Clear Channel Spectacolor HD screen, the only 3D-capable screen in this historic New York City location. Attendees will receive commemorative eyewear to view this impressive 3D milestone. Honda has also revealed that the
secret special guest will be hip-hop juggernauts N.E.R.D., who are poised to perform a show-stopping set.
Joining Honda in the daylong celebration from 10am to 6pm, Sony Computer Entertainment America will provide racing simulators featuring the highly-anticipated Gran Turismo 5 on PS3, playable in full Stereoscopic 3D. Gran Turismo 5 is set to release on November 2nd and includes the CR-Z in-game. Maxim models will be on hand to give out the publication’s first-ever 3D issue. Attendees will also have access to Polite in Public event photo booths with 3D backdrops, the Hit+Run Crew with on-site T-shirt screen-printing and interactive CR-Z sport hybrid displays.
N.E.R.D. will take the stage at 12:30pm to perform a selection of their gold-certified hits, as well as songs from their highly
anticipated forthcoming album, Nothing (Star Trak/Interscope) due out this fall.
“To bring attention to the groundbreaking combination or rather duality of sport and hybrid that the CR-Z offers, the advertising campaign relies on a bevy of nontraditional elements–like 3D technology–to get the attention of young potential CR-Z buyers,” said Tom Peyton, senior manager of national advertising, American Honda
Motor Co., Inc. “This 3D playground in Times Square uniquely integrates advertising, gaming and music into a single memorable event.”
