Zach Galifianakis Responsible for Mel Gibson Removal from Hangover 2?

Was Zach Galifianakis a fan of Oksana Grigorieva? Or just not a fan of Mel Gibson? You decide.
Last week, news that Mel Gibson would be appearing in Hangover 2 led to a lot of controversy, on the set of the film and off. Because of the recent Mel Gibson-Oksana Grigorieva scandal (and the rest of Mel Gibson’s scandals), it was widely assumed Gibson would never work in Hollywood again, so the announcement of his impending appearance in Hangover 2 was quite the surprise. However, it seems that star Zach Galifianakis may have been responsible for pulling the plug on Gibson’s appearance.
Zach Galifianakis is the prime suspect for Mel’s removal, considering comments in a recent podcast.
“I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something,” Galifianakis said. “But…I’m not making any leeway.”
Apparently, that has changed since. But Galifianakis had some support as of yesterday, as director Todd Phillips released a statement explaining that while he was pro-Gibson, the entire cast was not.
“I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of Jeff Robinov and his team,” Phillips said. “But…this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew.”
Looks like Galifianakis finally made some leeway and managed to convince other people involved with the film that perhaps throwing money at Gibson isn’t a good way to discourage his outrageous behavior.
