Aretha Franklin Says She Never Had Cancer
by Brian Willett
The end of 2010 was a rough time for Aretha Franklin, as the singing legend was in and out of the hospital. However, Aretha Franklin attempted to keep a low profile by being vague about the situation, which almost always backfires. In this case, it led to a plethora of rumors concerning Franklin’s health, including some stating that she had cancer. According to Franklin, that is false.
“Well, there was just so many wild things out there and just so many things being said that weren’t true,” said Franklin. “I just felt I needed to address it a little.”
Franklin noted that she didn’t want fans to worry unnecessarily and explained that she did not have cancer. Reports during December from a “family insider” alleged that she had pancreatic cancer.
However, Franklin still did not reveal exactly what was wrong with her, although she explained why she headed to the hospital in the first place.
“The pain was so hard it almost brought me to my knees; I was in Birmingham and then Boston and after that concert the same pain hit me again,” said Franklin. “I really just began to not feel good and I said, ‘Oh, no this is it, I can’t do any more concerts till I know what the problem is.'”
Franklin underwent emergency surgery on December 2 and now says her medical problems are resolved, although she didn’t say what the trouble was. We’re just happy she’s better.
