Ernest Borgnine Brings Fish Tale to Life for Storyline Online

by Daniel Haim

SAG Foundation, in partnership with Direct Brands, Inc., is proud to announce completed filming of Storyline Online’s latest project, Marcus Pfister’s classic children’s book The Rainbow Fish as read by Screen Actors Guild 2010 Life Achievement Award recipient Ernest Borgnine.

The veteran actor joins a list of distinguished celebrities who have volunteered to read on camera for Storyline Online, part of the Foundation’s internationally-recognized Children’s Literacy Initiative.

Storyline Online brings youth-oriented literature to life with celebrity readers and computer-enhanced illustrations for online streaming, available free of charge at any time of day. Despite the site’s success in reaching children, educators and parents as an effective learning tool (with supplemental activities for each story and over three million hits a month), its future has been jeopardized by mounting costs.

Thanks to a grant of $10,000 by Direct Brands, Inc., home to over 20 unique book clubs and the pre-eminent marketer of books in the United States, the non-profit SAG Foundation was able to secure video production of The Rainbow Fish with Mr. Borgnine’s generous participation.

Rainbow Fish tells the story of a greedy fish who learns to share with the help of a wise octopus. Borgnine is eminently qualified to read an undersea story as he is the voice of aquatic superhero Mermaid Man in the Nickelodeon smash-hit “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
