Haiti News: Wyclef Jean Shot in Hand, Not Seriously Injured
by Brian Willett
With so many other events going on in the world, it can be easy to forget about the news in Haiti. The latest Haiti news is that Wyclef Jean, who was in Haiti to promote the presidential campaign of Michel “Sweet Micky” Martelly, was shot in the hand just after exiting a car. The bullet grazed Wyclef’s right hand late Saturday night and he was treated at a hospital and released. Wyclef said he will be voting in Sunday’s presidential election.
Wyclef had originally attempted to run for president of Haiti, but was denied because he failed to meet residency requirements. He has remained active in Haiti news and politics, aiding the campaign of fellow musician Michel “Sweet Micky” Martelly. There was no word on whether the shots fired were intended to hit Wyclef, but music manager and fellow traveler Jimmy Rosemond said that it was intentional.
“It is clear that enemies of progressive change in Haiti are behind the shooting of Wyclef – those that don’t want to accept that a monumental change is inevitable for the betterment of the Haitian people,” said Rosemond. “This incident will not deter those of us that see the election as crucial to the country’s future.”
Whatever the motivation for the shooting, we’re happy to report that Wyclef is not seriously injured. You cn check out Wyclef Jean’s music right here.
