Robert Trachtenberg for Tatler – Dont You Know Who I Am?
by Alice Byrne
This super-creative editorial for the August issue of Tatler takes a look at the stand out pieces from the fall collections through the eyes of iconic fashion figures including Tina Turner, Twiggy, Princess Diana and Madonna. Photographed by Robert Trachtenberg, the shoot goes from grand theaters, to city streets and record stores. Fashion editor Anna Bromilow selects some fantastic designs from Burberry, Versace, Ralph Lauren plus many more in this highly amusing, tongue in cheek editorial. It is a fun twist on an old idea.
I think this is a really great approach to a fashion editorial. It is much more interesting and memorable than many others, because there is something different about it. It is a very inventive spread. Of course, dressing models as celebrities and fashion icons isn’t that unusual, but the approach taken here is much more original. Rather than wigs and make-up, many of the shots see the model holding up images of the icon they are impersonating.
I have two favorite images here. I much prefer the ones that include actual imagery of the icons depicted. I feel the Princess Diana photograph (featuring designs by Fendi), and the Twiggy image (designs by Prada) are the two stand-out images, and by far the most interesting.
