Greg Kadel Brings Birds to the Pages of Numero
by Alice Byrne
Birds, or more specifically feathers, are big news in the fashion world. Feathers are in hair, on clothes, jewelry and accessories, so it was only going to be a matter of time until birds themselves were working high-end fashion editorials and become a star attraction. This black and white fashion shoot of Toni Garrn is taking creative styling and experimentation one step further. Shot by Greg Kadel and uniquely styled by Patti Wilson for Numéro, these photographs have that perfect amount of crazy to inspire further creativity and experimentation.
Firstly, the images themselves are exceptional. The contract is perfect and the sharp nature of the lighting and composition work well with the thick black border and monochromatic creative direction. In terms of fashion, there is a daring mix of the hugely experimental and edgy garments with everyday pieces, from fur, lace and knitwear to a tiara, a cage skirt and a perspex mask. The combination of everything from the clothes to the model choice, birds and photographic styling create a bold and striking editorial for the fashion-forward publication.
