Frédérique Constant Comes to America
by Alexander Patino
Frederique Constant, one of the world’s premiere watch makers and artisans is finally opening up shop stateside. With its own boutique at William Barthman Jewelers in the heart of New York City’s financial district.
The Geneva based company is hoping to grow its presence in the American market, and not just amongst its soon-to-be neighbors on Wall Street, but with enthusiasts who appreciate, as founders Peter Stas and Aletta Stas-Bax like to call, an “Accessible Luxury”. Established with a sensible pricing point module as one of the great cornerstones of the brand DNA, this Swiss leader in luxe accessories is obviously onto something, having grown a reported 25-30% consistently each year since its founding in 1988, with 2011 seeing a whopping 40% increase in the US alone. By the end of this year, the company projects to have manufactured and sold a staggering 110,000+ pieces. That’s barely anything to scoff at.
Frederique Constant’s latest series, appropriately enough, is a two-parter. Using the intertwined hearts that form an aperture in the dial revealing the ‘heart beat’ of the movement in the iconic ‘Ladies Automatic Double Heart Beat Collection’ as the starting off point, and invigorated by a recent trip through the streets of Rome, Peter Stas and Aletta Stas-Bax set off to create the perfect complimentary jewelry series – ‘The Double Heart Jewelry Collection’. Expressing the timeless elegance and high quality that is totemic to the Frederique Constant brand, these romantic and completely elegant necklaces and bracelets, adorned with the finest stones, assembled by the highest tier of artists in Geneva, these ‘Designed by a lady for a lady’ classics are bound to adorn many a dainty wrist this holiday season on this side of the Atlantic.
