The Making of the Pirelli 2012 Calendar Video

Screencap of Mario Sorrenti in "The Making of the Pirelli 2012 Calendar"

One of my favorite perks of working in this incredible industry is attending photo shoots.  It is one of my greatest pleasures. Topping the list of memorable experiences at photo shoots is a day I spent with V Agency and Sebastian Faena, when Faena photographed Mark Vanderloo and Angela Lindvall (but that’s a story for another time). The video featured here truly captures both the feel of being on set at a shoot as well as the making of the Pirelli 2012 Calendar, photographed by Mario Sorrenti. It’s a 21 minute long video that details every scene with every model and includes a full interview with Sorrenti himself. Kate Moss, who dated Sorrenti back in the day, talks about the photographer, saying “He adores women, he really loves the female form and everything about it.” I must admit there is no doubt that this calendar is one of my favorite Pirelli calendars ever produced.

For those who don’t know, The Pirelli Calendar is an annual publication that dates back to 1964. The slew of big name photographers that have graced their roster include Nick Knight, Patrick Demarchelier, Terry Richardson, Karl Lagerfeld and Francis Giacobetti.

In the video, Sorrenti mentions “my inspiration to do something that is sensual but quite pure probably comes back from early years of taking photographs and loving quite pure things.” For your pleasure, you can view the entire gallery right here
