Agyness Deyn has perfected the 1990s messed-up grunge look.

Agyness Deyn took inspiration from Courtney Love when designing her Dr Martens line.

The model looked back to icons of the 1990s when she was creating her first clothing line. The collection features knitted sweaters and tea dresses as well as the brand’s famous footwear. Agyness describes the overall feel of the range as distinctly “grunge” with a quirky vibe.

“It was inspired by Winona Ryder and Courtney Love, and all those girls who had hot boyfriends in the ‘90s,” Agyness told UK magazine Glamour. “I wanted to do something you could wear separately, but you could also mix together and it could be eclectic. And then I thought, grunge is totally like that, so we went grunge – the whole ‘90s-couple-in-love quirkiness, all that vibe.”

The English model’s collaboration with Dr Martens seems like a natural partnership. Agyness is known for her rock and roll attitude and for wearing heavy Dr Martens boots to red carpet events. She hopes she will be able to inspire future generations’ dress sense with her own individual style.

“Dr Martens was the perfect little adventure of creating… it was a stream of consciousness,” Agyness explained. “It was all clearly illustrated, so exactly what I wanted was produced. There was no room for error. I want to be walking down the road and see someone in that acid dress and be like, ‘Whaaat!’”

The 29-piece Agyness Deyn x Doc Martens collection will be available from August 15.
