Andrej Pejic becomes the first male to cover Elle

by Melissa Tunstall

Stand in front of the plethora of monthly fashion mags, and you’ll see beautiful woman after beautiful woman. Sure on occasion, one of these magazines will feature a male (and normally only the best movie star, athlete, or top model) ogling another female model but not all magazines even dare to put a male on one of their women’s mastheads. Andrej Pejic has made fashion history by becoming the first male model to appear on the cover of Elle magazine. It may be Elle Serbia, but it’s still a major coup and perhaps a sentimental touch for the part-Serbian born who fled to Serbia during the Bosnian War. The androgynous Pejic even pulls double duty posing as a female and male model in the same shoot.

Pejic already has a resume full of fashion accomplishments—walking for major designers and landing top magazine spreads to name a couple—but this time he broke fashion history. Hats off to you, Andrej, and we cannot wait to see you grace even more covers.
