And Then There Were Five

The British Fashion Council announced yesterday the shortlist of designers for the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund – and it’s pretty good company to be in. Nicholas Kirkwood, Mary Katrantzou, Peter Pilotto, Emilia Wickstead, and Roksanda Ilincic made the final cut to compete for the title with the winner being named on January 29.

The fund is in its fourth year and provides the winner with a yearlong, top-notch mentorship program as well as a £200,000 grant. Comparable to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, the British equivalent has already granted Erdem, Christopher Kane, and Jonathan Saunders the honor in its first years of existence.

Who will join in their ranks in 2013? Will it be Kirkwood’s celebrity adored shoes; Katrantzou’s internationally inspired designs; Pilotto’s printed, couture-like silhouettes; Wickstead’s youthful yet polished look; or Ilincic’s elegantly slouchy aesthetic? At least, we only have about a month and a half left to wait to see who will receive the coveted fund and, of course, title.
